At CS Angel, we back founders who deeply understand the day-to-day reality of Customer Success. That's why we're thrilled to announce our investment in Monocle, an AI-native executive assistant purpose-built for CSMs and other knowledge workers.

I am Nupur Thakur, SVP Post Sales at Trantor. As a Customer Success strategy and operations leader, I bring a proven track record of launching, scaling, and driving growth for SaaS solutions, with a special focus on leveraging AI to enhance customer success outcomes and implementing effective strategies for AI-driven products. After being introduced to Monocle at a CS Angel demo day, I became an angel investor. Read more to learn why.

The problem Monocle is solving

Every CSM knows the feeling: the calendar is packed, the notes from yesterday's call are still half-written, the prep doc for tomorrow's QBR doesn't exist yet, and the CRM hasn't been updated in days. Admin drag is the single biggest tax on CSM effectiveness, and most of the software sold to fix it often creates more reporting burden than it removes.

Monocle takes a different approach. Rather than building yet another dashboard for managers to monitor CSMs, Monocle builds for the CSM. Out-of-the-box note templates, automated meeting prep, calendar and transcript ingestion, task scheduling, and executive summaries — all in a unified workspace. The result? Monocle customers are cutting roughly 66% of the time typically spent on admin, freeing CSMs to do the one thing that actually moves retention and expansion: spend time with customers.

Monocle redefines Customer Success tools from a system of record to a system of execution. This AI doesn’t just inform decisions, it helps get the work done. Now that’s exciting!

Why now?

The CS tooling landscape has a gap. Enterprise CSPs start at $40K+ per year and are overbuilt for most teams. Individual CSMs have been stitching together ChatGPT, Claude, Notion, and a dozen browser tabs to compensate. Monocle arrives with a bottom-up, workflow-first motion: ICs adopt it immediately because it delivers value on day one, and expansion into teams and companies follows naturally once champions are established. Since launching on November 5, 2025, Monocle's two-person founding team has merged 94 pull requests across 240 commits, touching over 170,000 lines of code across 1,562 files — shipping integrations with HubSpot, Salesforce, and Google Calendar, a full opportunity tracking system, portfolio summaries, an onboarding flow, billing infrastructure, and a complete org-level data architecture overhaul in under five months. The team has signed paying customers across three continents, and secured design partners for the Monocle for Orgs launch, several of whom are replacing existing enterprise CS platforms with Monocle.

The Team

Monocle is led by Stephen Wise, who built and scaled GitHub's Customer Success organization, growing the team from 7 people to over 100 and covering $400 million in ARR. His CS leadership experience also spans Chef Software, SAP, and Agility Recovery. He has lived the problem Monocle solves from every angle: as a CSM, as a CS leader, and now as the person building the fix.

He is joined by Connor Marry, Co-Founder and Founding Engineer, who owns the majority of Monocle's production codebase and has built the platform's CI/CD pipelines, Stripe billing, CRM and calendar integrations, and AI automation architecture. Connor recently shipped a complete architectural overhaul migrating the entire platform to organization-level data ownership in a single sprint — the kind of execution velocity that is rare at any stage.

The board includes Julian Dunn, formerly of GitHub, PagerDuty, and Chainguard, and Lauren Clauss, a GTM and marketing executive. Advisors also include Shaun Porcar, a seasoned CS Executive.

What we love about the strategy

Three things stood out to us during diligence:

  1. Monocle is designed around execution, not reporting. It solves the work, rather than measuring how long the work takes.

  1. Cost-aware engineering. The team has built Monocle with an average AI cost per operation under a tenth of a cent, using the right model for the right task and tracking spend at the feature level. This discipline is rare at the pre-seed stage and signals a team that can scale responsibly.

  1. A clear integration roadmap. HubSpot bidirectional sync is live today with full org-level connection, owner-aware sync, and smart deduplication. Salesforce integration is coming this summer following the same provider-agnostic architecture. Slack, Pylon, and conversation intelligence tools like Gong and Fireflies follow. This aligns with where CSMs actually work and paves a credible path upmarket.

What the angels are saying...

Kiran Sivaraam, Director, Customer Success and Support at Fortinet saw an opportunity to empower CSMs:

Customer Success has always been about relationships, but most tools bury CSMs in admin work. With my background in technology and CS leadership, I recognized immediately that Monocle empowers CSMs to focus on impact, not admin tasks.

Gemma Cipriani-Espineira, Head of Digital Atlassian, Founder at CS Angel resonated with Stephen's deep experience:

Monocle is the tool I wish I had when I was running CS at high growth startups. Stephen understands this job from the inside out, and it shows in every corner of the product. We're proud to back a team that is building for the CSM, not the CSM's manager's manager."

Looking Ahead

Monocle for Organizations launches May 4th, 2026, bringing org-level manager one click reports, opportunity tracking, internal work visibility, and role-based access to every CS team that has outgrown spreadsheets but cannot justify a six-figure platform. The HubSpot integration is already live on the Marketplace with full bidirectional sync, owner-aware reassignment, and one-click org-level setup

The upcoming launch marks the moment Monocle stops being a tool for individual CSMs and becomes the execution layer for entire post-sales organizations. We could not be more excited to be on this journey with Stephen, Connor, and the team.

Welcome to the CS Angels portfolio, Monocle!
